Final exam in
all the islands

WILLEMSTAD--It’s going to be a very suspense-filled period for 3,444 examinees of secondary schools in the entire Netherlands Antilles.

The final exams started Friday (tomorrow) with VWO, to be followed by HAVO and VSBO on Monday.

Compared to last year, 10 less candidates will be taking their finals this year. The number of examinees for HAVO is 723, 64 more than last year; for VSBO, it is 2,493, 42 less; and for VWO, it is 228, 32 less than last year.

The highest number of examinees is of the preparatory secondary vocational education VSBO, with 2,493 students of 19 schools taking the finals this year.

This will be the VSBO’s fourth final exam. There are three education sectors within VSBO: PBL (Practical Vocation-oriented Sector), PKL (Practical Management-oriented Sector) and TKL (Theoretical Management-oriented Sector). The largest group of VSBO students will take the TKL exams. The number is 1,033.

Dutch is the first subject of the exams in VWO, HAVO as well as VSBO this year. The last day of the exams will be May 30, and the subjects for VWO and HAVO are Spanish and Computer science, and for VSBO Economy and Welfare.

The second chance exams will start on Monday, June 16 for VSBO and on June 17 for VWO and HAVO. The schools will be informed of the norms of the first period exams no later than June 12 for VSBO and June 13 for the VWO and HAVO.

Expectations are that the schools will announce the results of the first period finals no later than June 13. Examinees who wrote the re-exams, the second period, can expect to hear their results on June 26.

The Expertise centre for Tests and Exams (the exam bureau within the Ministry of Education) is responsible for putting together, producing and distributing the exams in secondary education.

There is an exam line for reactions and comments on the exams. The exam line is grouped per subject cluster and is intended for candidates and other interested persons to access. Depending on the nature of the reports, the dispatch will take place during or after the exam period.

The exam line during the exam period can be reached from 8:00am to 12:00pm and from 1:30pm to 4:30pm. Reactions can also be given via the email address esbomexa@cura.net.
