PHILIPSBURG--Commissioner of Personnel Maria Buncamper-Molanus hired the first St. Maartener during her recruitment trip to the Netherlands on Sunday. The Commissioner says she was very proud to sign a contract with Julisa Frans and looks forward to welcoming her back home. Frans, a Milton Peters College graduate, was hired in the position of Policy Writer at the Finance Department.
The Commissioner is looking forward to making additional announcements of the same nature as well as the background qualification info for all hired persons, she stated in a press release on Sunday.
The recruitment drive continues through the next few days. Two persons will be hired for each ministry to fill senior management level positions. Along with other civil servants, they will be partly responsible for establishing the seven government ministries.
The Executive Council approved a budget of approximately NAf. 1.1 million which would allow government to hire persons. These vacancies are within the seven government ministries for country St. Maarten and are essential to the constitutional process for St. Maarten to become an autonomous country.
Participants in the Passaat Recruitment Days in Rotterdam were able to participate in the symposium “Should I Stay or Should I go” on Saturday with speakers and panellists from the Netherlands Antilles.
Buncamper-Molanus was one of the speakers. She gave an overview of the constitutional change process of St. Maarten as well as an overview of the new governmental organization for Country St. Maarten. During the final part of her speech, she reflected on the reason she was in the Netherlands recruiting professionals for Country St. Maarten.
“I am hereby asking all professionals and especially young St. Maarteners to give their active moral support and come help us build our country St. Maarten to embark on a new and bright future for ourselves, our children and families and all citizens on our beautiful island. Embrace this exciting adventure and embark together with us on this new and bright future for our country St. Maarten,” Buncamper-Molanus said
Sector Director of Resources Hiro Shigemoto, Sector Director of Management Support Services Randy Duggins and Director of the Project and Programme Bureau Louis Brown accompanied the Commissioner on the trip to the Netherlands.
The Commissioner’s press secretary Michael Granger also issued a press statement indicating that Buncamper-Molanus had met with a number of St. Maarten students in the Netherlands who were eager to return home.
“Many students appreciated the effort the Commissioner as well as the Sector Directors and Heads of Government Departments are putting forward by coming to Holland and actively seeking them out. This alone, some opined, shows that their country needs them back home,” Granger said.
