Gas prices to
go up soon
PHILIPSBURG--Drivers and residents in general are set to get an early Christmas gift from government and it’s not a good one. Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams confirmed Wednesday that there is a pending proposal to increase gasoline and other related prices.
However, she could not say by how much the price would go up or when exactly the increase would take effect, as the proposal from the Department of Economic Affairs has not yet reached the desk of the Executive Council.
After decreasing in last November, gas prices rose twice already for this year, with steadily rising oil prices on the world market given as the reason for this by authorities.
When the increase takes effect, residents may also see a further jump in their electricity fuel clause that has been skyrocketing most of this year. The utilities company GEBE board had mandated management over two weeks ago to present a proposal for reducing the fuel clause. However, to date, no announcement of the relief proposal has been made public.
