Man gets three years
for domestic violence
MARIGOT--The Guadeloupe court imprisoned a 22-year-old French Quarter man on November 10 for causing grievous bodily harm to his young girlfriend over a period of a year or more, the Gendarmerie reported.
The judge handed the man a three-year prison sentence, two years of which were suspended.
The latest incident of domestic abuse took place in the early morning hours of November 9 when the man returned to his home in French Quarter at 3:00am after a heavy night of drinking.
He beat up on his 21-year-old girlfriend causing injuries to her body and face. As a result of the beating, the woman was not able to work for two weeks. She reported the incident to the Gendarmerie on the same day, confessing that she had been a victim of regular abuse by the man and in May 2006 had suffered a fractured arm.
The man was immediately arrested by the Gendarmes and transferred to Guadeloupe where he was sentenced.
