Dick says
he’s no liar
PHILIPSBURG--Justice Minister David Dick has refuted the allegations that he is a liar. The allegations, according to the minister, aren’t based on the truth.
He said the issue had never bothered him personally, but he set the record straight stating that he had letters dating back to 2006 showing he had requested the assistance of Marechaussees for St. Maarten from the Dutch Justice Minister. According to Dick, the Marechaussees are already present on the island.
PAR Member of Parliament (MP) Marlon Jamaloodin was the first to pick up the matter in Tuesday’s meeting of the Central Committee of Parliament. He said the Minister had to clarify media reports in which he was called a liar by Commissioner Louie Laveist.
According to PAR MP Glenn Sulvaran, by calling the Minister a liar, Laveist actually labelled him as a thief. “They called you a thief of the truth. But what is the truth; for example, is the WODC report the truth?” Sulvaran asked.
Laveist made his comments last week Wednesday, after Dutch Interior Affairs and Kingdom Relations Minister Guusje ter Horst had stated the day before that she had heard about St. Maarten wanting Marechaussees, but had never received a formal request.
