PHILIPSBURG--The police have confirmed that a local lawyer and his wife D.Z.R were involved in a dispute with police over the weekend and that the incident resulted in the arrest of D.Z.R.
Police spokesman Chief Inspector Johan “Janchi” Leonard said on Sunday afternoon that D.Z.R. had been arrested following an accident near Le Grand Marché. Leonard confirmed reports that the lawyer’s wife had slapped an officer in the face and had been verbally abusive.
He said both the lawyer and his wife had given incorrect names to the police when asked to identify themselves. The circumstances of the accident are still not clear and Leonard said further details regarding the incident would become available within 24 hours.
The lawyer’s wife was taken to the police station, but was released shortly afterward.
