Two locations identified
to house Police Affairs
PHILIPSBURG--The third floor of the ITC building in Madame Estate or the building in Philipsburg that housed TelEm’s offices until recently probably will be the new location for the offices of the Local Chief of Police PHP.
Justice Minister David Dick told Parliament last week that he was looking at the options regarding moving PHP to a new location. Dick mentioned the possibility of moving the office to Madame Estate, but said no definite decisions had been taken as yet.
Democratic Party (DP) Member of Parliament Erno Labega said in the meeting that much had been said about the unacceptable conditions at the police affairs offices in the Sun Color Building. “The conditions which the clients are faced with when seeking information and assistance have become worse and need urgent attention,” he said.
He queried the Minister about the status of new space for the PHP offices and wanted to know whether the ITC building was really the most suitable location.
Labega told The Daily Herald that in view of the type of services the offices provided, he thought the building in Madame Estate wasn’t suitable because it would be located on the third floor and would be less accessible via public transportation.
“The elderly, most especially, would have a problem climbing the stairs,” he said. An alternative location would be the TelEm building in town.
Labega: “TelEm has moved to its new building and the building in Philipsburg, which is now vacant, has enough space and a ground floor that is easy to access. In the past, the Minister had asked about the possibility of using that building, but then TelEm hadn’t moved as yet.
“I hinted to him that TelEm has moved in the meantime and hopefully he can get things moving very quickly.”
