Sarah: Women deserve
a life without violence
PHILIPSURG--Condemning all forms of violence, Women’s Affair Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams said the community needed to be proactive in eradicating domestic violence most especially.
On the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Sunday, the commissioner said women have the right to a life free of violence in both public and private spheres.
In a Government Information Service statement, she called on the community, “To do something, no matter how small or how insignificant, you may think it is, because together we can, and together we will stop violence against women.”
She added, “Violence against women is an obstacle to the achievement of equality, development and peace and it is an act that violates and hinders the enjoyment of women’s human rights and freedoms.”
Global figures suggest that one in three women experiences some type of violence at some point during her life.
