Marlin proposes take over
of Tax Office management
PHILIPSBURG--Finance Commissioner Roy Marlin will propose a contract to the Central Government giving St. Maarten responsibility for the daily management of the Tax Office.
Marlin said he was scheduled to meet Finance Minister Ersilia de Lannooy on Friday in reference to the Inspectorate of Taxes.
“If you go to the Tax Office, you will see that the personnel are uninspired, there is lack of attention and lack of resources,” Marlin said. “My suggestion to the Minister will be that we sign an agreement where St. Maarten gets total authority for the daily management, so we can hire people, deal with the automation, salaries and backlog.”
Such an agreement will cost the Island Government an additional NAf. 2.5 million, Marlin stated.
