No security breach at
airport, says Holiday

AIRPORT--Princess Juliana International Airport Operating Company PJIAE president Eugene Holiday has confirmed that there is no evidence of a breach of security at the airport. He made his statement in a press release issued on Thursday.

“Any statements to the contrary are unfounded. The policies and procedures in place at PJIAE are in keeping with international safety and security standards to safeguard civil aviation from unlawful acts and/or interference. There is therefore no reason to question the level of safety and security at PJIA as implemented by PJIAE security,” the press release stated.

Holiday repeated his earlier statements pointing out that the police were investigating the recent theft from a cargo warehouse at the airport and therefore PJIAE did not deem it appropriate to make any statements regarding the incident. However, because it is concerned about the theft, it has met with the pertinent cargo handler and discussed the matter.

Chief Prosecutor Taco Stein said on Wednesday that around US $850,000 in jewellery had been stolen from the air cargo building at the PJIA. He said the heist was the largest single theft since he had been on island and probably the largest ever to have been recorded here.
