Several bus operators found
violating traffic regulations

PHILIPSBURG--The Control and Inspection Department has conducted a series of inspections of buses in collaboration with the local Police Force and found several bus operators in violation of traffic regulations.

The Government Information Service (GIS) reported Friday that the unit had spent the better part of this past week “controlling” buses and other vehicles, and among the traffic violations discovered were drivers operating buses with more seats than their driver’s licence categories allowed, buses operating on public roads without fire extinguishers and/or first aid kits, and drivers operating buses with expired help driver permits.

Other violations concerned the condition of the buses.

Bus drivers who were in violation of the regulations were given the opportunity to make the necessary corrections and then report back to the department for a follow-up inspection.

According to GIS, the Control and Inspection Department has stressed that the intention is to carry out regular traffic controls, which should eventually bring about changes in the attitudes of motorists and ultimately make the roads safer.

GIS said department’s officers had all been sworn in as extraordinary police officers and all had years of experience in dealing with traffic-related matters.
