Sol Antilles fixing oil
pipeline in Cay Bay
CAY BAY--The sight of booms in the water off Sol Antilles Fuel Bulking Station in Cay Bay raised some concerns among residents who feared that an oil spill had occurred in the area.
However, there was no spill, according to David Antrobus of Sol Antilles. Maintenance work has been ongoing on one of the fuel wholesaler’s docking pipeline for a few days now, he explained.
The booms were placed in the water as a precautionary measure in case fuel from the line leaped into the ocean during the works. A “light slick” did appear on the water, but this was quickly soaked up by the absorbent booms. The pipeline being fixed normally attaches to the oil tanker and channels oil to the holding tanks on land.
The maintenance work is expected to be completed by Saturday with minimum impact on the environment
