Parliament to meet on
Monday’s POK meeting
~ PNP reiterates position in letter to Brinkman ~
WILLEMSTAD--All Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Kingdom Relations will meet on Sunday for a final decision on strategic positioning of the Netherlands Antilles Parliament regarding the tripartite meeting with Parliamentarians of Aruba and the Netherlands POK scheduled to start on Monday.
Parliament had sent a letter to Dutch Parliamentarian Hero Brinkman demanding that he apologise for his insulting statements about the Netherlands Antilles and politicians of the Netherlands Antilles.
It was made clear that should he decide not to apologise, the political factions would not sit in any meeting at which he was present. Brinkman said in his statements that the Netherlands Antilles was a corrupt nest and that the islands should be sold on the Internet.
While the Antillean Parliamentarians planned to meet on Sunday, some political factions already have their minds made up on the matter. Member of the PNP faction Dudley Lucia sent a letter to Brinkman on Thursday stating that he took notice of Brinkman’s remarks, which were ignorant and lacked respect for all non-European Dutch Kingdom citizens.
“I’m of the opinion that you never had the intention to seriously participate in the tripartite meeting on Kingdom Relations POK in the Antilles. If your intentions were serious, respect for your co-citizens would have been central in your statements,” Lucia wrote.
He said Brinkman should not throw stones when living in a glass house. “By insulting the citizens of the Antilles and Aruba you will gain a few more votes at the most, which is not a guarantee for the survival of your party. History has shown this with other parties in the Netherlands of the late Jan Maat and Pim Fortuyn which too were extremist and racist.”
Finally, Lucia said he hoped that Brinkman’s stay in the Netherlands Antilles would contribute to solving his shortcomings that made him an unworthy representative of the Dutch people.
