Aeroplanes delayed by
fuel problems at PJIA
AIRPORT--Several flights out of Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) were delayed Sunday afternoon due to the Sol Antilles station not having enough fuel to cope with the influx of airplanes at the peak arrival time.
Sol St. Maarten Head David Antrobus told The Daily Herald that the recertification of the jet fuel had been delayed, causing a chain reaction. The fuel was recertified per international aviation requirements around 1:00pm. Transportation was also slowed because of the heavy Simpson Bay traffic.
Once the fuel was available at the airport, the waiting jets and aeroplanes were able to resume flights. All the jet bridges were occupied during the almost hour-long delay, leaving arriving jets sitting on the apron until the congestion cleared up.
