Scot appointed to
HIV/AIDS Team
PHILIPSBURG--The HIV/AIDS Programme Management Team recently acquired Lorraine Scot as its Communication Officer to assist with the communications aspect of the recently launched “St. Maarten’s [RED] Campaign” 2008 – 2011.
“As programme manager this was six years in the making, we finally have the four staff members envisioned,” said Suzette Moses-Burton, HIV/AIDS Programme Manager. “This shows the commitment of government to have additional resources in the form of personnel, and by having a communications officer we can address the major challenge in the implementation of the 2007-2011 Strategic Plan.”
Prior to joining the staff at the Programme Management Team, Scot worked at the Government Information Service since 1997, where she was responsible for the dissemination of government related information to both civil servants as well as the external public. Scot could be seen reading the government news on the GIS Bulletin or opening the weekly GIS Live Executive Press Conference.
“I am very happy to be part of this dynamic team, whereby we will be addressing the very important topic of HIV/AIDS,” said Lorraine. At the PMT, Lorraine will be the liaison between the media houses for the [RED] Campaign and will be responsible for the overall communications strategy of the PMT and its programmes, such as the 2007-2011 Strategic Plan.
The purpose of the St. Maarten [RED] Campaign is to bring awareness to the community about HIV/AIDS through the joint partnership of the public and private sector. The [RED] Campaign will be carried out in four stages – all in a very creative manner.
The first stage is entitled “Talk [RED]” and runs for the entire year – 2008; stage two starts in 2009 and is entitled “Think [RED], Do Safe” and this aims to promote healthy sexual lifestyle choices; stage three in 2010 “Act [RED] Go Test” will push persons to know their status by getting tested, and the fourth and final stage in 2011 “Act [RED], Show Love” aims to reduce stigma and discrimination.
