Parliament celebrates
70 years of existence


PHILIPSBURG--The Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles will be celebrating its seventieth anniversary on April 5.

“Seventy years of representatives of the people of all islands of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba have discussed matters of importance to the community in the Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles,” President of Parliament Pedro Atacho said.

The Domestic Affairs Committee of Parliament discussed the 2008 calendar of meetings on Monday and agreed that the week of Parliament meetings of March 25 would take place in St. Maarten. In that week a solemn meeting of Parliament will be held and lectures will be given. Lectures will be given in Saba and St. Eustatius also to celebrate the anniversary.

Solemn meetings will be held and lectures will be given during Parliamentary sessions in Curaçao in the week of April 7 and in Bonaire in the week of April 21. “From the end of March till the end of April it will be a delight of commemoration of 70 years of Parliament. In due time Parliament will give information on who the speakers of the various speeches will be,” Atacho said.
