No separate committee
will study target date
PHILIPSBURG--It was agreed during Tuesday’s Kingdom Political Steering Group meeting on constitutional affairs that the workgroup that prepares and advises the steering group would study the feasibility of the December 15 target date for attaining new statuses.
The Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles, Curaçao and St. Maarten discussed the constitutional change process in the Belair Community Centre on Tuesday.
Constitutional Affairs Commissioner Sarah Wescot-Williams said the workgroup was the best group to be tasked with investigating the matter, instead of establishing a separate committee to study the feasibility of the target date.
The workgroup should also table proposals on how to accelerate the constitutional change process. It is expected to present its findings and proposals by March 1.
