Dutch to provide NAf. 14 M
for NA dismantling process

PHILIPSBURG--The Dutch Government will help with NAf. 14 million for the process of dismantling the Netherlands Antilles (NA). Constitutional Affairs Minister Roland Duncan hopes to sign the financing agreement next week with Dutch State Secretary of Kingdom Relations Ank Bijleveld-Schouten.

She will be in the Netherlands Antilles for the visit of Dutch Prime Minister Jan peter Balkenende.

Duncan told The Daily Herald his Ministry of Home and Constitutional Affairs would receive NAf. 7 million for the dismantling process. The money will be used to help the islands in the process. Also, a communication plan will be set up to give the public more and better information.

Duncan said Suzanne Koelega had been tasked with setting up the communication plan for the Windward Islands. “President of the dismantling committee Geomaly Martes is busy finding a person in Curaçao to do the same for the Leeward Islands,” Duncan said.

The other NAf. 7 million will be used by other Ministries. “Finance Minister Ersilia de Lannooy and Telecommunication Minister Maurice Adriaens also have some projects they need to execute in light of the dismantling process,” Duncan said.
