44 civil servants commence on
Extra Ordinary Police Course
PHILIPSBURG--The mandatory Extra Ordinary Police Course for civil servants of the departments of Public Health, Economy and Tourism, Public Works and Welfare kicked off at the University of St. Martin yesterday.
The group of 44 civil servants, which will be divided into 22 persons per class, will undergo a four-month training on controlling and enforcing warnings with fines.
Commissioner Maria Buncamper-Molanus explained that the intention of the training is for the participants to develop further in their task and become more effective in their service in order to generate a concrete control resource, as the island moves towards country status.
The course costing some NAf. 100,000 will be carried out by Liberty N.V., a locally established company run by former Prosecutor Johan de Vrieze. The commissioner encouraged the group to attend all classes as the course is very costly, therefore the outcome should be worth the cost.
After the training is completed, civil servants who passed the tests in the laws and regulations covering their field of work will be sworn in by Lt. Governor Franklyn Richards and be invested with the power to issue fines to defaults.
