Sol simulates oil spill
to check readiness
CAY BAY--To test the readiness of its personnel and equipment for an oil spill, Sol Antilles carried out a “passing ship oil spill” exercise Tuesday. The two and a half hour exercise simulated an oil spill close to an oil tanker that was in Cay Bay.
Sol Operations Manager Robert J. James said, “The simulated emergency was responded to in accordance with the Sol Antilles Cole Bay Terminal Oil Spill Contingency Plan.”
To deal with the spill, oil spill equipment was deployed immediately to control the situation. The Harbour Master and the Disaster Management Office were informed of the exercise.
James commended the ship’s crew and Sol Antilles depot staff for their instant reaction, as that enabled “a successful drill.”
