Three accidents
reported Sunday

PHILIPSBURG--Three car accidents were reported on Sunday. The accidents involved driving under the influence, injury to a driver and the attack on a driver by an individual who was accidentally brushed by the vehicle.

On Sunday, the driver of a white Tuscan with license plate E52 K.R. from St. Maarten who was driving under the influence, hit into the back of a grey Hyundai Getz licensed P6987 driven by R.M. from Jamaica.

For his safety, K.R. was brought to the police station around 4:30am and released when he had sobered up around 9:30am. K.R., who had been aggressive and had used profanity at the station, was reprimanded for his behaviour.

Around midday on Sparrow Drive, Over the Bank, the driver of a pickup with license plate V759 encountered some difficulties when the pickup suddenly stopped on the hill. After pulling up the hand breaks, the driver went to the back of the vehicle to check out the situation. During this, the pickup started to roll back, jammed him against a rock and also hit a parked car with license plate M9887. The driver of the pickup complained of pain in both legs.

While driving on Madrid Road in Dutch Quarter on Sunday around 4:00pm, a driver J.W. from Guyana accidentally hit a young man R.D., who was walking on the road, with the rear-view mirror of his car. As a result, both J.W. and R.D. began to argue over the situation. The argument then escalated into a fight whereby R.D. chopped the driver J.W. with a rock in his head.

J.W. sustained injuries which had to be treated by ambulance personnel who were called to the scene. R.D. was arrested and brought to the station.
