Blue Flag workshop for
marinas, boatyards today
COLE BAY--Representatives of the marine sector and boatyards on the Dutch side will be a part of the first Blue Flag workshop organised by Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC) at Carl’s Unique Inn today, Tuesday at 10:00am.
Officials of government’s environmental and tourism departments are also on the list of attendees to learn about and discuss the Blue Flag programme which is an exclusive, voluntary eco-label awarded to marinas that meet a specific set of criteria concerning environmental information and education, water quality, safety, services and environmental management.
Blue Flag is designed to raise environmental awareness and increase sound environmental practices among tourists, residents, marina management and staff. The programme is designed to work with the national, regional and local legislation of each country, thereby assuring that the legislation is being followed.
Making presentations at the workshop are Blue Flag Coordinator Finn Bolding Thomsen, Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) Executive Board Member Henny Kromhout and a representative of Department of Environmental Planning VROM.
EPIC, a non-governmental, non-profit foundation, was recently appointed Blue Flag Coordinator for St. Maarten.
