Dry taps in some districts
caused by technical issues
PHILIPSBURG--Residents of St. Peters and other areas woke up Monday to just air in their taps. Water problems in these areas are nothing new to these residents who suffered through days without a constant supply from late November to early January.
This new water disruption was reportedly caused by the storage tanks running low after technical difficulties shut down a production unit late last week.
However, similar issues that occurred from Thursday to Saturday were caused by technical problems with the water production units in the Cupecoy water plant run by Air-Fin, according to a utilities company GEBE press release.
As the island is in the midst of the high tourist season, the demand for water is almost equal to the production capacity. Water in the storage tanks was quickly depleted while several areas such as Simpson Bay and the Lowlands experienced low pressure.
Technicians had the production units back up and running by Saturday afternoon. Some adjustments were made to the distribution network to improve water service to the community.
GEBE is not responsible for water production, only its distribution.
