BES-islands meet on
healthcare insurance

BONAIRE--The health inter-island committee meets on Bonaire this week to discuss a general medical insurance for the BES-islands Bonaire, Saba, and St. Eustatius, among other things.

There will be two representatives of the Dutch Minister present to specifically discuss the general medical insurance.

Public Health Commissioner Boy Clarenda said that the insurance is one of the most important subjects that needs to be discussed.

“As we all know, there will be just one type of insurance for all citizens of the BES-islands instead of the different currently existing types of health insurance, such as Social Insurance Bank SVB, General Health Care Bureau BZV, and Government Pensioners Health Care Fund FZOG,” Clarenda said.

The Dutch representative drafted a proposal that the islands will have to go study and give their input on with the goal to formulate a final draft proposal which will be submitted to the governments of the Netherlands and the BES-islands for approval.
