Winair, KLM
hike fuel charge
PHILIPSBURG--The skyrocketing fuel prices will hit air travellers a bit more this week. Windward Islands Airway International Winair and Dutch Airline KLM have announced fuel surcharge increases.
Winair will tag a US $12.50 fuel surcharge on one-way tickets on all flights and US $25 for round trips as of May 1. According to Winair management, the increase is “due directly to the current market level of rising fuel prices.”
The increase also affects resident ticket fees. Residents of St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius will have US $5 added to their one-way tickets and US $10 per round trip.
KLM, part of the Air France/KLM partnership, will up the fuel supplement two euros to 31 euros for flights within Europe. The fees for intercontinental flights will increase by 10 euros to 98 euros.
